The webinar explained what Country-of-Origin Information (COI) is and how it can be used to support an asylum seeker’s claim. Co-facilitators from Asylos and ARC Foundation also helped participants learn to:
  • Frame research questions for themselves and for others
  • Develop a research strategy
  • Apply quality criteria in researching, selecting and presenting COI
  • Become aware of common pitfalls and challenges and be able to address these
  • Conduct source assessments to determine the reliability and accuracy of a source
  • Present COI to decision makers, adhering to principles of neutrality

We are pleased about participants' active attendance in the webinar and enthusiastic about the prospect of furthering fairer asylum-decisions through the course.

The webinar was the first in our ongoing series of COI research training webinars delivered in partnership with Refugee Action's Front Line Immigration Advice Project. These webinars are open to not for profit immigration advisers who are registered with Refugee Action and who work with refugees and asylum seekers in the UK, supporting them during their initial asylum application or with further submissions on a fresh claim. The next training of this format will take place in early 2020.

If you are a UK stakeholder who is not eligible for registration but would like to be kept up-to-date about future training opportunities, please get in touch with us at [email protected].
