This information session is for legal representatives in Pakistan and beyond. We will discuss the following issues:

  • Afghanistan Country of Origin Information (COI) Repository

We will discuss the practical use of Asylos and Clifford Chance's weekly updated Afghanistan COI Repository. The COI Repository is intended as background reference material for legal representatives and those assisting asylum seekers from Afghanistan, to assist in their preparation of the registration and application(s) in refugee status determination procedures. Legal representatives are welcome to submit sources and excerpts cited in the Repository for their specific case to decision makers (including judges) to assist in the determination of an asylum claim or appeal.

  • UK legal advice for Afghan Asylum Seekers in Pakistan

The session will also provide information on legal services available for asylum seekers who have left Afghanistan and are now in Pakistan and are seeking family reunion, information about the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) Scheme, or support for unaccompanied minors in the UK. Find out more about the Afghan Pro Bono Initiative, which is led by Refugee Legal Support (RLS) and Safe Passage International, and offers pro bono legal representation to Afghan refugees.

  • Advocacy, policy and networks on Afghan refugee rights in the Asia Pacific region

We will also discuss regional advocacy efforts guided by local and national NGOs working with Afghan refugees in Pakistan and explore the benefits of strong networks of diaspora organisations and refugee-led initiatives in increasing protection to those seeking safety. Learn about the work of the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network and its members in supporting Afghan refugees.
